Fading Cadence is about aspiring and often failing. The lines in the graphic above referrence T.S. Eliot's Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock; "the voices dying with a dying fall." The dying fall of dying dreams. And the often flawed portrait of dreams caught mid-flight, the faded water-colours of a vision that somehow got lost in the translation.
Fading is, most simply, for writers; whether you're driven to essay, fiction or confessional journaling. In this, the fifth incarnation of the exchange, I'd like to narrow our focus to writing sites only. That is, your site needs to exist because of your written efforts. The writing should not be incidental to the site, but your sole reason for the site. I'd also love to see critical analysis and reviews that get at the "hows" and "whys", the machinations and mechanics, of writing in all genres. There are many exchanges, for nearly everything except writing. If your site lacks a literary emphasis, then try submitting to an exchange more suited to your content.
Membership is based on content and not appearance. I don't expect breath taking graphic work from writers. Because this exchange is about the writing. To that end, I do expect functional sites that support more than one browser, and thus facilitate access to your writing.
Desired
- Much written aspiration; essayists, poets, journalists, fictionaires, etceteras. Regular extensive journals with elaboration and points to each entry count as writing (weblogs and most variations thereof do not).
- The unconventional and innovative (whatever that means).
- The conceptually eccentric and uselessly eclectic (score major points for uselessness).
- Error free HTML (valid if at all possible, a DTD at least), and multi-platform support.
- Spellchecked work (I can handle British variants, but I want to see the difference between too, to and two demonstrated. It's very important that they're, their, and there not be confused.).
- Original work (your writing, not a bunch of quotes or selections "borrowed" from your favourite authors).
- The experimental and/or the unsuccessful (especially the unsuccessful).
Required
- An 88x31 .gif or .jpg 'button' under 86kb, and accessible through external linking.
- Submit your writing site not the domain or collective it's a part of.
- Spare me the odd characters around your site name. Text and numbers will suffice.
- The Fading script located on your splash, index, or links page within 3 days of addition (not submission). I will notify you of member status, so you don't absolutely have to add the script unless you're added.
- Responsible maintenance of your site information, as concerns the exchange, and display of said script at all times. I will remove your site when you remove the script (especially if you fail to contact me [below]).
Note: Existing member sites are not subject to any criteria implemented after their addition.
Please complete the entire form, being thoughtful in your response to the "Reason for Submission" field. It's really all about the hits. But I've got this 'underlying meaning' hangup, so please indulge me. If you're an existing member you can use this form to edit your site info. Please mark altered fields with an asterisk (*), and I'll update the script as soon as possible. If you decide to leave the exchange, or take the code down, please use this form to contact me so that I can maintain an accurate member list.
Install the following on your splash, index, or links page:

Fading Cadence was originally created by Brooke as a Supervillainess project. It is currently being managed by Vanessa of VCNielson.com. Graphics were created in PSP 6.01 (unregistered shareware), using the Carpenter ICG, Printer's Ornament One, and Thesis SSK type faces, and an original image from a box of photographs belonging to Brookes' grandma. The site was carefully designed in IE 5.5 to meet W3C Standards for transitional XHTML, and should readily accomodate all users. Feel free to link Fading at http://vcnielson.com/fading
, with a button (below) or the text of your choice.
If your site doesn't quite fit Fading (perhaps writing isn't your focus), then I highly recommend these affiliated exchanges for quality personal sites and integrity of webdesign. The exchanges themselves are delightful, oozing with personality, and the member sites continue to amuse.
